Which pre-cut PPF kits fit the new Juniper Model Y (refresh)?

There are several options out there, but the first was from DIY Wrap Club. They have DIY kits for every trim of the new Model Y Juniper – Standard, Premium, and Performance. You can also get various coverage kits like front or full body options.

What to Cover? Just the front (bumper, hood, fenders) or the whole car?

You should at least cover the front of your Tesla Model Y Juniper, such as the front bumper, hood, fenders, headlights, and mirrors. This is the most common coverage and budget-friendly kit. It protects the highest impact areas. DIY Wrap Club recommends to also install PPF on the rockers. These are also high damage areas due to rocks and road debris that fling up from your tires daily.

If you want total peace of mind, you drive a lot, and you have the budget, opt for full body PPF coverage. This is the complete package and will ensure every inch of your paint is protected. Plus, with this option you can choose between matte and gloss clear film. The gloss keeps your shine, and the matte (aka stealth or satin) changes the look of your paint to a flat color.

Both front and full options are great for resale value and long term paint preservation.

How hard is PPF installation for a beginner?

How long does PPF actually last?

High quality PPF (Avery Dennison, 3M, XPEL, STEK, etc.) is typically rated for up to 10 years.

Does PPF still yellow and crack?

PPF does not yellow or crack anymore. If you’ve had a car in the past that did, we’re sorry to hear that! It’s a nightmare to remove. However, in the past decade or so, paint protection film technology has improved drastically. Most high quality film also comes with a 10 year warranty against yellowing, cracking, or any film defects.

How durable is PPF really?

Paint protection film is not vinyl. It’s about 8-10mil thick, made from TPU, and generally has a hydrophobic coating on top. It protects against UV rays, rock chips, scratches, dings, and more. It also has self-healing properties, meaning with heat it’ll buff out scratches all on it’s own. Rated for up to 10 years, PPF makes sure your paint is in the same pristine condition once its removed.

What kind of film is used in DIY PPF kits?

DIY Wrap Club PPF Kits use Avery Dennison Supreme Defense film as well as their own in-house line called BORING PPF. Both are high quality and made to last up to 10 years.

Do I have to remove parts of my car to install DIY PPF for Model Y?

DIY Wrap Club requires minimal to no disassembly to install their DIY PPF kits for Model Y Juniper. Choose between removing some trims and fender cameras, or choose absolutely no removal kits. They have both options.

Should I get color or clear PPF?

Clear PPF is the go-to for most people. It protects high-impact areas without having to cover the entire car (although you can). Installing clear gloss for a front kit and rockers is the most popular and effective.

However, if you get clear matte PPF, you can change the sheen of your paint by making it a flat color instead of OEM gloss.

Clear PPF a bit more DIY friendly than color PPF too, simply because you can install edge to edge with clear, whereas color must wrap around every edge and cover every exposed area of the previous color.

DIY Wrap Club offers both clear and color DIY PPF kits for Model Y Juniper.

How hard is PPF to remove? Will it damage the finish of my car?

PPF is not easy to remove, but it can be done with the right tools and methods. PPF doesn’t crack or yellow these days, so it’s much easier now than it was in the past. However, PPF is made nowadays to be reversible and to remove with no damage to the paint underneath.

For PPF installation, do you remove emblems/logos, cut around them, or use special kits?

DIY Wrap Club has several DIY PPF options for everyone. You can purchase kits that have the cutout around emblems or you can remove your logos and purchase the kit that doesn’t have a cutout.

The good news is that the Model Y Juniper doesn’t have the front T logo anymore, so front DIY PPF kits are completely emblem free anyway.

Does clear PPF change the look of the paint?

No, clear gloss PPF does not change the look of the paint. It’s nearly invisible coverage. However, clear matte PPF does make the glossy OEM look of paint more flat and stealthy.

How much can you save DIY versus paying a pro for PPF?

DIY PPF is a fraction of the cost it takes to pay a professional to install it. DIY front kits (Front bumper, hood, fenders, headlights, mirrors) are $500-$800, whereas pro PPF front kits are $2,000-$4,000. DIY PPF full body kits in clear gloss and matte are generally $1200-$2,400. Pro PPF full body kits are $4,000-$10,000. Color PPF is even more due to the material cost and labor involved. Price depends on the specific shop and the cost of living for the region you’re located in.

Can I PPF my Tesla Model Y Juniper outside?

A well-lit, indoors environment is key to a successful install. The ideal space for a wrap install is a clean garage that has enough space to move around well in. The temperature should be around 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit. Too cold and it’s brittle and less flexible. Too warm and the adhesive is too gooey and film too stretchy.

What tools do I need to install PPF as a beginner?

Good spray bottles, squeegees of various sizes, 70% isopropyl alcohol, and soap to start with. It’s also helpful to have large tables for the film to lay on and peel the backing paper off of easily. Distilled or mineral-free water is also key.

DIY Wrap Club kits come with everything you need, including prep solutions and high-quality microfibers. The kits are designed with the customer in mind, and that means not having to go to a bunch of other stores to find everything you need. No guessing – just all the answers you need in one box.

DIY Wrap Club provides in-depth PPF installation courses. You’ll learn how to prep your Tesla Model Y Juniper, install the PPF successfully, and even maintain your wrap afterwards.
