We’ve wrapped a lot of Cybertrucks since they first hit the road.
And after doing it over and over again, we started noticing something…
The hardest parts aren’t always what you expect.
If you’re planning to wrap your Cybertruck, whether you’re a DIYer or a pro, here are some of the non-obvious tips that will save you time, frustration, and a lot of rework.
1. Remove the Frunk Panel If You Want Faster, Cleaner Installs
This is one of those things most people skip… but shouldn’t.
If you’re short on time or working with wet install PPF, removing the front panel and lights makes a huge difference.
Why?
- More working space
- Faster drying times
- Easier edge wrapping underneath
The top frunk panel is held on by a series of 10mm bolts. When it’s compressed in place, trying to wrap edges becomes way harder.
Once removed, you can:
- Fold film cleanly underneath
- Avoid fighting tight gaps
- Finish faster with better results
It takes about 10 minutes, and it’s 100% worth it.
2. Don’t Remove The Fender Trims… Just Loosen It
You don’t always need to go full teardown.
A lot of modern patterns (from XPEL, 3M, etc.) are designed to avoid heavy disassembly.
Instead:
- Loosen panels using the 10mm bolts
- Create space without full removal
- Tuck film underneath for full coverage
You’ll save time and still get a clean install.
3. Always Clay Bar the Stainless Steel (Don’t Skip This)
This one will make or break your finish.
Cybertruck stainless steel looks clean… but up close, it’s not.
You’ll often find:
- Embedded contaminants
- Black specks
- Surface rust (rail dust)
If you wrap over that, you’ll get:
- Bumps
- Imperfections
- “Pimples” under the film
So before anything:
👉 Clay bar the entire surface
This ensures your wrap lays perfectly smooth.
4. Sand Down Sharp Edges (Seriously)
Cybertruck edges are no joke.
They’re:
- Sharp
- Inconsistent
- Easy to cut yourself on
And more importantly…
They can cause your film to fail.
What we do:
- Lightly sand edges with ~1000 grit sandpaper
- Just enough to dull the edge
- Don’t overdo it
This helps:
- Film adhere better
- Prevent lifting
- Save your hands from getting sliced
So take a few minutes and check everything.
5. The Hardest Part Isn’t Panels… It’s the Edges
Here’s something most people don’t expect:
Cybertruck panels are actually easy.
The real challenge?
👉 The edges and pillars
Why?
Because unlike normal cars, Cybertruck edges are basically 90 degrees.
You’re not just wrapping to the edge…
You’re wrapping behind it.
That changes everything.
Watch Out for Rubber Seals
This is a big one.
Around the pillars, you’ll notice rubber seals that:
- Sit too high
- Press into your film
- Cause lifting over time
What we do:
- Use a squeegee to inspect gaps
- Push seals down where needed
- Create space before installing film
You’re basically prepping the area so:
- Nothing interferes with adhesion
- You can wrap deeper and cleaner
Add More Material Than You Think
Early on, we noticed something:
Standard wrap margins weren’t enough.
So we adjusted our kits to include:
- More “meat” on edges
- Extra wrap depth
Because again, you’re wrapping behind edges, not just to them.
6. Use Air Suspension to Save Your Back
This is one of the easiest wins.
The Cybertruck has adjustable suspension. Use it.
- Working on pillars → lower the truck
- Working on doors → raise it up
It sounds simple, but it makes a huge difference over a full install.
Less bending. Less strain. Better control.
Final Thoughts
The Cybertruck is one of the coolest vehicles to wrap… but it’s also one of the most unique.
Flat panels make you feel like a pro.
Edges remind you real quick you’re not.
If you take away anything from this:
- Give yourself space (remove or loosen panels)
- Prep the surface properly (clay bar everything)
- Respect the edges (sand + wrap deeper)
- Pay attention to pillars and seals
- Use the suspension to your advantage
Do that, and your install will go way smoother.
If you’re diving into your first Cybertruck wrap, this stuff will save you hours.
And probably a few headaches too. Best of luck!
