The Tesla Model S one of the most important, original cars Tesla ever made.

Even today, it still holds up. The design is timeless, the performance is still impressive, and the driving experience feels modern. But visually, some older Model S builds can start to feel dated, especially with chrome trim and older styling details.

That’s where smart upgrades come in.

Instead of replacing the car, you can completely transform how it looks and feels with a few targeted modifications.

That’s exactly what we did with this build. The customer bought it used and wanted it to feel new again, so we went to work.

The Goal: Modernize Without Overdoing It

This wasn’t about going overboard with mods.

The goal was simple:

  • Make the car look more modern
  • Clean up outdated styling
  • Add a slightly more aggressive stance
  • Keep it OEM+ and tasteful

Here’s what we tackled:

  • Chrome delete
  • Powder coated wheels + new tires
  • Headlight and taillight tinted PPF
  • Debadging
  • Spoiler removal
  • Lowering links

Small changes individually. Huge impact together.

Chrome Delete: The Biggest Visual Upgrade

Image

If you own a Model S, this is the upgrade.

Chrome delete is easily one of the most impactful mods you can do. It removes the reflective trim and replaces it with a satin or gloss black finish, instantly making the car feel newer and more performance-focused.

Why Chrome Delete Works So Well

  • Eliminates outdated chrome accents
  • Matches newer Tesla design language
  • Makes the car look more aggressive
  • Ties together darker wheels and trim

What We Improved in Our Kit

We’ve come a long way from our early designs.

Originally, installs required:

  • More stretching
  • Less margin for alignment
  • More maneuvering to get the film to lay correctly

Now:

  • Backing cuts allow letter-by-letter installs for the rear
  • Better margins = easier alignment
  • Less stretching = cleaner finish
  • Less magyvering
  • Faster install time

This isn’t just about looks. It’s about making DIY more doable.

We’re always striving to improve our products and customer experience with updates like these.

Removing the Old Spoiler (And Why It Matters)

This Model S came in with an older non-OEM spoiler that had started to delaminate.

Removing it:

  • Cleaned up the rear end
  • Fixed aging adhesive issues
  • Simplified the overall look

We used:

  • An eraser wheel to remove adhesive
  • Careful polishing to blend imperfections

Important note:
Older adhesive can leave marks. You’re working within the limits of the clear coat, so patience matters.

Powder Coated Wheels + Performance Tires

The factory 21” wheels were powder coated to a satin black finish.

This alone dramatically changed the side profile.

Why This Upgrade Works

  • Black wheels = more modern look
  • Hides brake dust better
  • Enhances stance visually
  • Pairs perfectly with chrome delete

We paired them with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires for:

  • Better grip
  • Premium ride quality
  • Performance-focused feel

Headlight Tint: Subtle but Powerful

We applied a 45% light transmittance tint to the headlights.

This is one of those upgrades people underestimate. AND it’s completely DIY friendly.

What It Does

  • Darkens the front end
  • Reduces contrast between lights and body
  • Makes the car look sharper and more aggressive

Lowering the Model S for Better Stance

We lowered the car about 1 inch using adjustable lowering links.

How It Works

  • Adjusts suspension sensor position
  • Car “thinks” it’s higher than it is
  • Automatically lowers to compensate

Result

  • Reduced wheel gap
  • More planted look
  • Better proportions

This was paired with a staggered setup:

  • 245 front
  • 265 rear

Small drop. Big difference.

The Power of Small Details

This build proves something important:

Big transformations don’t require a ton of money and modifications.

They come from stacking the right small improvements.

  • Chrome delete modernized the trim
  • Wheels changed the profile
  • Tint sharpened the front
  • Lowering improved stance
  • Debadging cleaned everything up

Each piece builds on the next.

Final Thoughts: Make Your Tesla Feel New Again

A 2018 Model S might not be brand new, but it doesn’t have to look old.

With the right upgrades, you can:

  • Modernize the design
  • Improve the stance
  • Personalize the look
  • Fall in love with the car again

That’s what this build was all about.

Not changing the car completely.
Just making it the best version of itself.
